Fifty students in St. Pius X High School's summer communications courses got the chance to be part of a live studio audience for Great Day Houston on Tuesday morning.
In addition to experiencing the behind-the-scenes working of Houston's only live morning show and meeting professionals in the communications field, the students in St. Pius X's communications class contributed to a greater cause – KHOU 11's Turn the Page Literacy Initiative.
The students compiled and donated over 250 children's books to KHOU's community effort to help shed light on Houston's childhood literacy crisis and encourage summer reading throughout the Houston area. Donations will benefit Houston-based non-profit "Books Between Kids," an organization that serves at-risk children by providing them with books to build their own home libraries.
The 3-week communications course teaches SPX students to identify, analyze, develop and evaluate communication skills needed for success. It focuses on interpersonal and intrapersonal communications, small groups and public speaking skills.
