St. Pius X High School student Anita Hopmann has come a long way from teaching herself tricks with a water baton purchased at a dollar store. Her hard work and dedication to twirling paid off this summer, allowing her to excel against collegiate competitors.
At the Miss Texas Model Pageant, Hopmann, a rising senior, competed against several collegiate feature twirlers. Hopmann placed the highest of the high school students in her division. She finished fourth behind twirlers at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Houston and Texas Tech University. Hopmann placed ahead of the feature twirler at Howard Payne University.
Hopmann also competed in the Texas State 16+ Intermediate Solo Championship, earning second place behind the twirler at Texas Tech. Her placement secured her spot as the alternate for the national competition. She was awarded the Regina Moxley Memorial No Drop Pin.
Hopmann added a first-place finish at the Texas 16+ Intermediate Basic Strut Championship.
Hopmann prays her senior year at St. Pius X will be her best year yet. She wants to work towards winning the Miss Majorette of Texas Intermediate 16+ title.
