Visual Arts

Learning the Language of a Visual Culture

We communicate more and more through visual means. Charts, info graphics, signs, and photography all convey critical information in our day-to-day lives. A fine arts education at St. Pius X High School gives students the visual vocabulary and practice they need to operate in this rising culture.

Our Fine Arts department educates our students in the visual elements of:

  • Composition
  • Scale
  • Color theory
  • Lighting
  • Positive/negative space
  • and more

Putting Skills to Work

Students practice their skills in studio classes, learning the tools of drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, digital photography and graphic design. They actively participate in TAPPs competitions and student publications. Interested students have the opportunity to build a portfolio of work under the guidance of our faculty as they go on to pursue fine arts opportunities at the college level.
