St. Pius X welcomes new girls soccer head coach Laura Flores ahead of the 2020-21 season. Under her leadership, the Panthers look to improve upon last year's 13 wins overall, 4th place finish in their TAPPS division, a tournament win in San Antonio, a state tournament appearance, district selections, and state player of the week selection.
We caught up with Coach Flores to learn more about her love and appreciation for the sport.
"My devotion to soccer is not just a personal passion, but also an inherited cultural interest. Growing up soccer was an essential part of everyday life. More importantly, it has also been a unifier for friends, families and entire communities.
"Especially in an academic setting, I believe that soccer provides an excellent athletic outlet for students while also inspiring athletes to build their leadership and teamwork skills. I personally developed and honed these skills as a student athlete, first at Valladolid Marist High School, where my team won two national championships as well as state championships in 2005-2007, and secondly at the universities I attended: La Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara and Bluefield College in Virginia.
"Lastly, I have a background in physical therapy and several certifications as a Strength and Conditioning coach, I hold a C license with US Soccer and FEMEXFUT grassroots, all of which I plan on utilizing in our training for the St. Pius soccer team.
"I am excited to be joining the Pius Panthers team, and I cannot wait to see our strides and progress on the field this coming season."
We look forward to another successful season and wish coach and the squad good luck!
