Scholarship Submissions

Veritas Scholarships are awarded annually to students who best honor the heritage of our founding Dominican Sisters and exemplify the four pillars of St. Pius X High School: Prayer, Study, Community, and Preaching. The winning students demonstrate academic excellence, integrity, and engagement in school and community activities. The amount awarded is nearly 100% of tuition for the top recipient and 50% of tuition for 2nd and 3rd recipients, per grade level.

To qualify, applicants must submit an up to 500 word essay detailing how they embody each of our Dominican four pillars in their lives.

Pius Merit Scholarships are awarded annually to incoming freshmen or transfer students that are in the top 1% - 4% of applicants to SPX. These scholarships are awarded based on a holistic composite of GPA, ISEE scores, and four pillar representation. Students must maintain a GPA in the top 15% of their class annually to retain their scholarship during their time at SPX.

Applicants will be selected by administration based on the criteria listed above.

The Dominican Sisters of Houston Scholarship is an endowed scholarship through the St. Pius X High School Foundation and was established in 2022 to honor Sister Donna M. Pollard, O.P. The Dominican Sisters of Houston Scholarships are awarded to incoming or existing students in any grade level.

These scholarships are a minimum of $2,000, and are awarded by the Administration to students that exemplify charism in their daily lives.

The Sister Lavergne Schwender, O.P. Scholarship was established in 2013, in honor of the Golden Jubilee of Sister Lavergne Schwender, O.P.  The scholarship is an endowed scholarship through the St. Pius X High School Foundation and was originally funded by Kevin Snow ‘69 in honor of Sister Schwender's dedication to St. Pius X High School and charism. The Sister Lavergne Schwender, O.P. Scholarship is awarded to incoming or existing students in any grade level.

This scholarship is a minimum of $2,000, and is awarded by the Administration to a student that exemplifies charism in his or her daily life.

Mrs. Suzi West '69 was a long-time Math teacher (1981-2016) at St. Pius X High School and was the wife of long-time social studies teacher, Gary West. Both of their children, Brenna '95 and Garrett '09, also attended St. Pius X High School. This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman especially interested in math. This scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000.

To qualify, applicants must meet the criteria above and submit an up to 250 word essay detailing their interest in and passion for math. Applicants will be selected by Administration based on criteria in their application submission.​​​

The Jacquline Lee Jordan Memorial Scholarship is offered to a qualified 8th grade student at St. Edward Catholic School who reflects the values, interests, and academic career of Jacquline Lee Jordan and has applied for admission to St. Pius X High School. Jacquline was a multi-talented student with a thirst for knowledge. Her life reflected deep faith as seen in her involvement at their home parish of St. Edward. She was an altar server, a choir member, and a substitute accompanist during liturgies. She was involved in many co-curriculars at St. Pius X High School and excelled in academics.

This is a one-time $1,500 scholarship.  Applicants will be selected by Administration based on criteria in their school application.

The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina was felt not only in New Orleans but in Houston, hundreds of miles away. St. Pius X High School opened its doors to over 100 students and their families. Among those were Sue and Ed Zinni and their son, Daniel. At SPX, they found a community that accepted and provided foundations for a new life amid an uncertain future. Daniel greatly enjoyed his time attending SPX, graduating with the class of 2008. In 2013, the Zinni-Reed Scholarship was established to benefit students from middle-class families striving to provide an SPX education for their children.

Angelo J. Palazzolo '70 Scholarship was created by a gift to SPX from the estate of Angelo J. Palazzolo. It was the wish of the Palazzolo family that the recipients be SPX students whose history and background mirror that of Angelo's own: children of middle class families striving to provide a Catholic education. 

To qualify, applicants must meet the criteria above and submit an up to 500 word essay detailing how a Catholic education at St. Pius X High School has impacted their life. This scholarship varies in amount (typically between $5,000 - $6,000), and is awarded to rising juniors and seniors enrolled at St. Pius X High School.

These $5,000 scholarships are awarded annually to ten rising 12th grade students at SPX. Recipients are chosen on a holistic basis, combining academic achievement and community involvement.

The Scanlan Family traces its Houston roots back to 1852. Its family patriarch, former Mayor of Houston, Timothy Thomas Howe Scanlan raised his daughters to give their all to the community and especially the Church. From the founding of the Art Museum to the beginnings of charitable initiatives like the Catholic Women’s Club, the Scanlans worked alongside the better-known names of history, such as William Marsh Rice and Captain James Baker, to promote the welfare of Houston in its infancy. As their final gift to their beloved State of Texas, the remaining daughters willed their estate to form the Scanlan Foundation, which serves Catholic religious, charitable and educational institutions in Texas.

The Beth Black Memorial Scholarship was established in November of 2017 to honor the life of Beth Black, mother of St. Pius X High School alumni Andrew Black '05 and Adam Black '07, and wife of longtime SPX Foundation Board President Jim Black. This scholarship honors a rising Senior who has worked hard in the classroom, excelled in extra-curricular activities, and exemplified the true meaning of being a Veritas man or woman. The amount of the scholarship is $2,000.

Beth was a dedicated SPX volunteer who spent countless hours working many parent association events, and providing meals and snacks for the football coaches and players at their practices and games. Beth also actively lent her time and support to the annual St. Pius X High School Foundation Gala. Her love of St. Pius X High School was ever-present.

The Carmen Armistead Scholarship is an endowed scholarship through the St. Pius X High School Foundation and was established in 2020 to honor the dedication of Carmen Armistead, the former Head of School of St. Pius X High School. The Carmen Armistead Scholarship is awarded to an existing student in any grade level that exemplifies charism in his or her daily life. The amount of the scholarship is $2,000.

To qualify, applicants must meet the criteria above and submit an up to 250 word essay detailing how exemplify the qualifications entailed above. Applicants will be selected by Administration based on criteria in their application submission.

The Allan Minar Scholarship is an endowed scholarship through the St. Pius X High School Foundation and was established in 2020 to honor the dedication of Allan Minar, CPA, who was the Director of Finance from 1997 to 2016 at St. Pius X High School. The Allan Minar Scholarship is awarded to an existing student in any grade level that exemplifies charism in his or her daily life. The amount of the scholarship is $2,000.

To qualify, applicants must meet the criteria above and submit an up to 250 word essay detailing how he/she exemplifies the qualifications entailed above. Applicants will be selected by Administration based on criteria in their application submission.​​​
