College Preparatory
Equipping Graduates for Success Beyond SPX
At St. Pius X High School, college preparation is more than advising – it’s a mission-aligned process that empowers students to discover their passions, explore opportunities, and confidently step into the next chapter of their lives.
Our dedicated Counseling Team works with students and families beginning in ninth grade, guiding them through a structured, personalized journey that culminates in strong college applications and informed decision-making.
College Readiness Roadmap
A year-by-year guide to staying on track for college success.

All Parents Will
- Complete the Parent Meeting Interest Form to let counselors know what type of programming they’re seeking.
- Confirm students enrolled in AP courses have joined the online AP Classroom.
- Review the College Visit Calendar below, in the MSA portal, or in Naviance. These calendars update automatically as new college reps schedule visits.
- Encourage students to sign up for visits held in the College Center during Community Time so counselors and reps can prepare accordingly.
Lower Division – 9th & 10th Grade
- Counselors meet with incoming transfer students and finalize schedule changes during the first few weeks of school.
- In September, counselors meet with ninth graders in small groups during PE and Health to introduce expectations and resources.
- Freshman one-on-one meetings follow throughout the first few months.
- In October, counselors meet with sophomores during Community Time to begin PSAT readiness checks and early college conversations.
Upper Division – 11th & 12th Grade
- Counselors meet with incoming transfer students and wrap up schedule adjustments early in the year.
- Students may visit the Counseling Office anytime for assistance or questions.
- Seniors meet weekly in the College Center during Community Time to work on applications and receive ongoing support.
- In September, counselors lead individual senior meetings to review college lists, discuss application timelines, and answer questions.
- College visits appear on the website, MSA portal, and Naviance calendars and are continuously updated as reps schedule.
A Collaborative Approach

Our college guidance services are strengthened through close partnership with the Counseling Department, faculty and the Advisory program. Self-exploration and planning begin in the classroom as early as freshman year, continuing through a developmentally appropriate curriculum tailored to each grade level.
Services Include:
- Personalized college planning and support
- Workshops and presentations for students and parents
- College application and essay assistance
- Scholarship and financial aid guidance
- Letters of recommendation and transcript requests
- Resources for NCAA student-athletes
- College rep visits and virtual tours
- Guidance for international and out-of-state applications
The college guidance at SPX goes beyond applications, it's truly personal. From day one, our counselor helped my daughter explore what she wanted in a college, not just where she could get in. She felt supported every step of the way.SPX Parent, Class of 2024
