SPX Cheerleaders
Both the members of the Junior Varsity and Varsity
cheerleading squads, as well as the SPX mascot, are selected annually by a panel
of judges from the National Cheerleading Association. The cheerleaders attend a
summer camp to learn cheers and teamwork. The cheerleaders cheer at all sports
events and rouse school spirit and team support through pep rallies. The squads
also attend National Cheerleading Association and Texas Cheerleading Association
competitions throughout the year.

Announcements
The panther cheerleaders
attended NCA summer camp at SMU in Dallas. They all worked very hard and
received multiple superior ribbons for their performances. The varsity and
junior varsity squads were both awarded Spirit Sticks for their enthusiasm and
overall attitude. Each squad received a Bid to the NCA High School National
Competition in Dallas. From the varsity Gaby Braastad, Jennifer Campa, Maggie
Gomez, Cara McCorkle, Leah Molder, and Pamela Simons and from junior varsity
Sarah Armstrong, Leigh-Anne Barnes, and Caitlin Wilson were all nominated for
All-American cheerleader. These outstanding individuals displayed superior
cheerleading techniques in any of the following areas: jumps, tumbling,
stunting, motion technique, leadership, and dance.
We had two varsity
cheerleaders who received individual recognition.
 Gaby Braastad, captain of
the varsity squad, was awarded
an Individual Leadership Plaque for displaying
excellence
in leadership throughout our NCA summer camp and
during her captain’s class. This award was given to only
four other captains at out summer camp.
Congratulations Gaby!!
 Jennifer Campa was awarded
the NCA Top All-American
Medal for being the highest scoring All-American tryout
at
camp.
