Susan Kapczynski
West, SPX '69, is in her 26th
year as a teacher at St. Pius X
and sponsor of the Del Sarto Chapter of the National Honor Society! At
one point in her life she also coached three squads of cheerleaders and
a 75-member Pantherette dance team and co-sponsored the St. Pius
Literary Guild!
Married to Gary
West, Social Studies Chair,
Ms. West holds degrees from
Rice University (BA, ‘73) and Washington University in St. Louis (MA,
'74). Her daughter, Brenna, graduated from SPX in ’95, and son Garrett
is a member of the SPX class of 2009. This avid, die-hard Astros fan
loves watching ANY
Panther or Houston team in action, and tending to the West
menagerie (Golden retriever Gaby, felines Lord Vader, Solo and Anakin
(or ‘Anakitty’).
She is an obsessive reader of
series mysteries, and
fantasy/science fiction (Wheel
of Time, Harry Potter), loves
being a Eucharistic
Minister at St. Rose of Lima parish, working puzzles of
all kinds, watching
“Star Wars”, Star Trek,
“Heroes”, and “Ghost Whisperer”, espousing Yoda wisdom, listening and
singing along to rock music (Bon Jovi,
Stevie Nicks, Daughtry, Dave Matthews,
Heart, Roxy Music, Moody Blues,
INXS, and U2!), collecting owls, Panthers/black cats,
rulers, and all things baseball!
Check out her room! It’s
all there! Eating out [Tex-Mex, Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, Indian and
Greek] with family and friends is a favorite activity, as is attending
plays and concerts as time permits.
The West Mission for
Mathematics: to help students grow as
well-rounded, service-oriented,
educated human beings in an
rapidly changing world. If you
plan to
learn only math in her class at St. Pius X, you've missed the point.
