Chip Burgin has been at St. Pius X High School since January, 2000
teaching Honors World History, World History, Government, and Economics.
His previous teaching experience includes 7 years at a middle school and over
20 years as a Government Instructor in the Houston Community College System as well as 2 years as a Teaching Assistant in the Political Science
Department at the University of Houston. In June, 2004, he was selected by the College Board to be a Reader for the Advanced Placement American
Government Examination, which he has done for the past two years.
Outside of education, he has been an attorney in private practice, an aide to a Houston City Councilmember and two Houston Mayors, an analyst in
the Texas Legislature, and an election consultant to political candidates and
a development consultant to non-profit organizations.
He has a Bachelor's Degree and Doctor of Jursiprudence (both with honors) from the University of Houston and a Master's Degree in Public
Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas in Austin.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities at St. Pius X, he is also an elected member of the Faculty Advisory Committee, Co-Sponsor of the
Student Honor Board, Co-Sponsor for the Close-Up Washington trip for Seniors,
a member of the Steering Committee for the School Improvement Team, and a guitarist with the choir at both liturgical and other events.
