Wow, what an exciting fall sports season! Following
the great accomplishments of Erin Van Wassenhove’s Cross Country Teams
(including a state title for Joey D’ Eramo), the football Panthers
brought the TAPPS state title back where it belongs - the corner of
Shephard and Donovan! How exciting was it for all of us to be a part
of this and witness these great accomplishments? It is a wonderful
thing to see our young student athletes reach their goals and fulfill
their potential.
It also was an exciting fall season for the Booster
Club. From the dedication of the new athletic complex, to the
unveiling of the new Panther logo in the school Gym to the opening of
the best concession facility this side of Reliant Stadium - it has
been a busy year for all of us. Speaking of the concession stand, I
wanted to thank Kathy and Neil Blackwell for supervising the many
activities around managing the concession stand during its busiest
season and for the many volunteers (sales associates) that took care
of our guests on Thursday afternoons and Friday evenings. Our revenues
almost doubled from last year which allows us to better support our
student athletes. Another change is the number of the Panther faithful
decked out in the black and orange sporting our new Panther logo. Gina
Demny and Ruby Januhowski, fashion merchandise coordinators, did a
wonderful job of getting new merchandise and selling the items at all
home games. And how about those orange SPX flags flying high above the
stadium each weekend; Jolene Nixon came up with the idea, placed the
order and transported them from place to place as we watched our
Panthers go for the title. By the time you will read this, we will
have wrapped up the fall sports season when we host the Fall Sports
Banquet honoring our athletes, coaches and administrators.
Congratulations to all for a memorable fall sports season!
Now on to the winter sports season. There are
plenty of concession stand opportunities for basketball and soccer
games. We are currently working on a Winter Sports Program recognizing
all athletes participating in winter sports. Thank you to Cindy
Elder-Medina for leading this project working closely with the Office
of Advancement and the Athletic Department. We have also placed orders
for banners in the gym recognizing the history of our sports teams as
well as our conference opponents-; they will look great with the new
Panther logo! And if all goes as planned, we hope to break ground on
the new practice fields as soon as the winter weather passes on
through. Finally, it is not to early to begin making plans for the
Booster Club Golf Outing to be held April 20th at Kingwood
Country Club. Start lining up your foursomes to join us for a great
day of golf, prizes and fun.
Although I have mentioned a few, I wanted to thank
all the volunteers that put in so much time this fall season in
support of the Booster Club and in helping us meet our mission of
supporting the student athletes at St Pius X. Best wishes for a safe
and happy holiday season!
